Welcome back! Although it feels like summer went by really fast, I am super excited for this school year to begin! I have tons of new ideas and materials that I think the students will enjoy and can't wait to start them all :) One very new thing is this blog. This is my first attempt at putting things online but I think it will be a great way to communicate as well as show you many of the wonderful things we do each day during our group times.
For those of you that don't know, I am a speech-language pathologist and I provide speech-language intervention as well as title 1 reading intervention to many students at Herbert Mills. If your student receives speech therapy, you are mostly likely already aware and we will pick up where we left off last year. The week of Labor day we will administer school-wide DIBELS assessments to evaluate specific literacy skills of each student. If your student does not reach the grade-level benchmark on this assessment, they may begin to receive reading intervention. Mrs. Brower, Mr. Cracraft, and myself all see small groups for reading intervention. Your child may work with one or two of us during the school year. A letter will be sent home to inform you if your student needs to receive intervention for reading.
I think that is all for now. Please plan to check this page regularly so that you are informed and up to date with all that is happening in our room. As always, you can contact me through email any time you have a question or concern. I look forward to working with you and your students this school year!
