It has been WAAAAYYYY too long since Miss Weyandt has posted. After spring break, things got really busy and my blog has been neglected :( I wanted to share some of the things we have done in the past few months.
Before Easter, the kindergarten reading groups had fun writing CVC words that they build on Easter eggs. They were told to find eggs and put them together to spell words. They then had to write their words and read them to the group. This was a fun way to learn before the holiday!
The kindergarten students also had fun writing consonant-vowel-consonant words in shaving cream. Miss Weyandt gave them a word and they needed to sound out the word and write the letters that they heard. We also did it with Miss Weyandt giving them each sound to write and they had to read the word when they were done.
Some of our students have also been working hard on improving and increasing their social skills. We often use games as a form to facilitate conversation and natural turn-taking rules. Tyler and Logan played "Go Fish!" They were encouraged to ask each other for cards while using appropriate volume and eye contact.
Dillon and Chabane practiced their social skills while playing "Guess Who?" They also had to practice formulating and asking appropriate questions to each other.
Some of the first grade students have been working on producing their speech sounds correctly during conversational speech. We use the game "Headbands" to practice our skills. The students had to each give a clue to their friends about the item that was on their heads. This game provided excellent opportunities to practice our speech as well as lot of fun!!
